Great place for a year or two but nothing more - Program Coordinator Rutgers University Employee Review

Pros

Rutgers is a great place to start your career and get some footing professionally, depending on your department you might have opportunities for travel and to network in your field.

Cons

It's a complete ambition killer, higher-ups don't value their staff and it is near impossible to move up or see any kind of progression. As someone who started in 2010, I pay more for my benefits without any kind of pay increase so I'm making less money now than I did then. They do offer tuition remission but be warned, you get taxed HEAVILY on your paycheck after you reach the 5,000 cap (which you do after two classes) and it seems like no one in HR knows anything about those payroll deductions. It's a stable job, sure but beyond that, go into a Rutgers job knowing what you want from your position and with an exit strategy otherwise be prepared to fight tooth and nail for any kind of upward mobility despite tenure or skill.

Pros

co-workers are super nice, friendly and collaborative. Good flexibility in work arrangements. My immediate boss is nice.

Cons

Morale is quite low, and turnover is high. We are losing good people and goals are not being met. Senior Leader tell us to do more with less, and do not want constructive feedback. They don't lead by example, taking elaborate trips instead of being present and supporting staff. Rules don't apply to them. So disappointing, not what you would expect from a public university.
