Great experience and excellent opportunity. - Administrative S.T.A.R. Programs Employee Review

When I graduated from UCSC I had no experience when it came to working with foster youth and this agency has been a huge steeping stone for me in regards to working myself up to my current position. I have rapport with the youth, DFCS and Probation Department. I have gained knowledge and experience that a text book can not teach you! STAR Programs is definitely a positive stepping stone. Working here has opened so many doors such as graduate school and job offers. I can really say that I have grown professionally at S.T.A.R Programs.

I know what I signed up for when I applied for a not profit. it is a small agency which can be a pro and con depending on the need ex: resources or pay. I am there to work and don't mix my personal life into the job. I am there to work. AS with salary sometimes I work more/less hours depending on what is going on that week.

Opportunity to work with a variety of youth in the foster care system. Some opportunities for growth.

High employee turnover rate. No established HR department. Pays very little with little to no opportunity for raises. Inconsistent policies within the agency. Management refuses to evaluate employees and when "quarterly" or "annual" evaluations are due, they will fill out multiple evaluations and back date them to make it seem like they evaluated their employees. Do not pay their employees proper overtime. Poor supervision of staff and residents. Poor staff coverage. Will not provide support on call despite there supposedly being a supervisor on call.
