Pros
Working as a defense contractor has the potential to be an interesting job/career, providing you can receive training to stay current with developing technology. Certain areas of defense contracting, i.e. analysis, seem to be hiring in these austere economic times. SAIC is one of the firms that is able to acquire defense contracts.
Cons
SAIC is able to acquire defense contracts largely because they underbid, so expect a lower than average salary, as much as 10 - 15%, painfully lower. Administrative support is terrible, actually a hindrance. I spent a great deal of time trying to correct their mistakes. It was almost as bad as the DoD. When I came back from an involuntary reserve deployment, they made it seem as though they were doing me a favor allowing me to return to my job, when in reality this is required by law.
