Pros
The pay is commensurate with the prevailing wage for specialized (armed) assignments, which ranges from $20 to $25 hourly. Most specialized assignments are within retail settings with customers who appreciate coverage.
Cons
There is very little incentive to stay on here. The accounts are managed by long distance using unusual hiring practices. As example, S.E.B. will over-hire for a specialized position, often taking months to select and hire. For a part-time on call position, S.E.B. hires at a ratio of about 7:1, causing six people hired to immediately qualify for unemployment benefits. S.E.B. will contest unemployment after laying people off regardless of circumstances, causing many to give up benefits. The most common ploy is to offer $10 per hour for menial work, after laying off for skilled work at $22/25 per hour, clearly not a valid job continuance offer.
