Pros

1) Used to have interesting projects when the branch existed.

Cons

The name by which Snic was known for was Industrial Engineering solutions. They closed this branch in April. It is now a software company (True. Check their google page) 1) Absolutely no HR systems. Even when we had a HR, she did not have any powers. For every small things she will be like "I will have to ask the owners." The HRs role is to just book tickets and mark attendance. 2) The communications from the top management is in shambles. They will notify of the start of a project a day before and expect you to travel the very next day for 3 - 4 month projects. There is no concept of Daily allowance and the reimbursements will be after 45 days. Older employees were telling how their reimbursements were put on hold because the client had not paid them the project money. 3) The other comment of how we have to maintain a register for AC is also true. 4) Regarding the reviews, we were shown screenshots of glassdoor and google reviews were deleted because they showed the company in a bad light. There are still Linkedin reviews from 2 - 3 years back about the true face of the company. So beware of this. 5) Leaves are for record purposes only. If you have to apply for leave in advance, you gat asked why? If you say personal reasons, they again ask what personal reason? Then there is a limit of sick leaves. if you fall sick for more days, you cant take casual leaves and it will be a LOP. Leaves, though miniscule, cannot be carried over or encashed. 6) Even though these are small and petty things - toiler papers are counted and compalints raised by the owner of how the usage of toliet paper was high. (True Story. Ask any employee there). Things are so bad, they have to save money on the toilet paper.

SNic Solutions Response
5y
Thank you for your detailed review. Here is my detailed response: You have stated correctly that we are a software company today primarily instead of just being a services company like we used to be in earlier. I believe every business has the right to evolve and so have we. Amazon for example has closed many of the retail shops worldwide and those who were running those shops for no fault had to over night rethink their buisiness. In our consulting business we also have had a similar situation and have moved more in the direction of selling and implementing software rather than just doing management consulting. Covid19 only added to the challenge with we having to take some tough decisions. Non performing employees were let go and capable employees were given alternate positions or alternative models to work with SNic. 1. I agree we have been poor on penning down every thing on paper especially HR Systems because we have believed that people are our assets and as a small company (or in your words a Lala company) can offer flexibility to the employee when needed rather than penning every scenario down. We are proud of being a small business and contributing to the community and do realize that our contribution is only a drop in the ocean. You are right that unlike a large MNC where a HR would have some financial powers, at SNic financial powers has been with the owners. Hence time and again approvals have to be seeked. We have put better systems now to handle this back and forth but until we are 200+ employees, it makes business sense to keep financial oversight and governance as owners for we are a debt free company and boot strapped business running a tight ship. 2. Reimbursements have only been put on hold when bills and expenses have not been submitted correctly or in time. I believe any company small or big has similar processes in place. Rest of the statements are inaccurate. I agree with you that we specifically have had a long term problem in motion and time study projects where projects were unplanned primarily because of our customers. We have seen this as a long standing challenge in such projects and hence are offering software to our customers for them to use local resources and execute the projects given that we have little control on our customers. Our managers should have had done a better job at convincing our customers to have break in long term engagements but this is something where I have personally taken internal responsibility and the issue has been addressed. 3. In 2015 or 2016 for a short period we had asked AC usage register maintenance in our old office as the bills had shot up way above the normal. It was clearly a case of carelessness. We had no choice but to enforce as there was little accountability from employees in office given that most employees including the CEO of the company was travelling and growing the business. The registers were removed after normalcy was restored in the billing and especially after cameras were installed in the office. As an owner I believe we have every right to save costs for the company especially when there is wastge. 4. We believe in Candor with our employees. Starting the company at 22 right our of college without any experience and running the company for 14 years debt free and bootstrapped calls for some tough decisions and yes we dont expect everyone to like it and this has backfired to us in some terminated employees writing strong and false reviews in the past. Our intent in the past to show all our existing employees the negative reviews and do something about it was that, glassdoor only had these poor reviews showcased and there were no other reviews. Since glassdoor was becoming a choice for candidates to go and read about a company and make an opinion we requested our employees to give a review. You are correct that old reviews are still there and there is nothing we can do about it as a company other than write a response and put our side of the story. 5. We have defined a leave policy and our leave policy is compliant with the laws of the country. I believe the statements made here in this point are false. We have had employees who have encashed leaves at the end of the year as well as we have had employees who for special events like marriage etc have taken 1 - 2 months leaves. Obviouly if they have leaves available from previous years, they can utilize, but those who have not had, have gone on Loss of Pay. I believe Loss of Pay is a standard practice in companies where you take leaves more than the expected work hours by law. We do have loss of pay policy during probation. The reason for LOP during probation is only because the first 6 months, many of our other employees are investing time in bringing a new employee up to speed and the cost of doing business just increases if we are to have new joinees going immediately on leaves. We are however working towards better systems on this subject as the external environment is changing rapidly. 6. We have grown up as kids learning to save electricity, water and paper. Management can only know of such events of irresponsible behaviour from employees. Our employees only had raised complaints about wastage from other employees and requesting us as owners to do something about it. I think such a point is not worthy of a response as your own writing speaks volumes for any reader to read through. In summary, We are proud as a small business to whatever little we have been able to do in contributing to job creation and in no way are the master of people, processes and culture. We agree that the number may not be large but we do have employees with the right competencies grown to leadership positions within SNic accelerating their career growth in terms of experience, exposure, pay and growth. We have also showed candor in identifying limitations in competencies for new and long standing employees. Employees who have not been able to improve their competencies have either chosen to leave us or stick on with us limited capabilities. We are thankful again for your review and wish you the best. Pros

- Everyone from the top down expects and reciprocates honest feedback and openness about projects. There are healthy debates and a lot of innovation in conversation. - Good benefits and great pay! - Remote work. So long as you have good internet, you can work or live anywhere. - Learn and gain a lot of personal and professional skills. - Your input is highly valued! - There is a lot of trust between coworkers and upper management. - Very understanding when family needs or other needs outside of work pop up and you need to take time off.

Cons

- Internal communication can be lacking. Just be the go-getter and be in charge if you have to to help mitigate this. Don't be afraid to continuously ask for something if it's affecting the completion of projects from others. - There is no structure to training. You have to ask for help. There are brilliant minds who work here, and they know a lot so just ask! Also, do a lot of research on your own and come to them with questions.

Pros

SNic is a great example of a company where the owners have listened to their staff and made fundamental, positive changes based on their feedback. When I was offered a senior management role at SNic 3 years back, I was worried to see some negative reviews on Glassdoor. When asked, the CEO, Nikhil Joshi, explained that, yes, they had received some poor reviews, and were suffering from some morale issues. He convinced me that he was taking this seriously, undertaking several changes internally to address the problems; management changes and efforts to improve the overall culture and experience for employees. To Nikhil's credit, since joining I have been involved in the biggest change in company culture and management style that I have seen in my 30+ years in the industry. SNic is now ahead of industry norms for both staff retention and employee satisfaction rating. --- Career opportunities - 5 stars SNic's business involves selling and implementing complex software delivery and integration projects, as well as developing its own software. The business has grown rapidly in the past couple of years with more than 40% delivery team expansion in the past year, and new products being bought in to the portfolio. That has led to a lot of opportunities for learning and opened up new career paths for employees. I feel that career growth for employees is genuinely something that is considered highly important. --- Compensation and Benefits - 4 stars Compensation is competitive with the market. SNic is still a relatively small company compared to some of its competition, so they aren't paying the very highest salaries out there, but merit-based salary increases keep employees' pay competitive. Benefits are good (e.g. in the US, we have family medical insurance including vision and dental). -- Culture and Values - 5 stars Already discussed above - very good culture and work environment. -- Diversity and Inclusion - 4 stars SNic has a diverse group of employees that work in the US, Canada, India, Brazil, and 1 guy in Madagascar! The work is very collaborative in nature so we get to work together a lot, learning about each others' cultures. Our development team has a good mix between male and female engineers - around 50/50. I'd like to see more women in some of the other roles. -- Senior Management I didn't rate this since I'm part of the senior management team and so I'd be a bit biased! However, I can say that my CEO is great to work for - he has a great vision for the organization and although demanding, he genuinely cares about the people his company employees. -- Work/Life Balance - 5 stars SNic gives us a good amount of flexibility in working time and location, with most staff choosing to work remotely from home. Our leave policy is based on an unlimited leave model and allows for all the different national and religious holidays that come with having people spread far and wide. Sticking to a 40-hour work week is encouraged and is generally achieved by most of the staff with the odd exception during critical project activities. No-one is working crazy amounts of hours.

Cons

Not the best fit if you are someone that prefers to work permanently in an office environment. We have a few people that choose to work in our offices, but the vast majority prefer to work remotely. Similarly, if you need the kind of precisely defined, time-tested structure and processes that a giant consulting firm offers, understand that SNic might be a challenge. As the organization grows, it is building those processes out, but overall it has more of a startup feel than a corporate one. I personally prefer the challenge of that and the opportunities that accompany it, but it might not be for everyone.
