Pros

It is a great learning experience about the chemical industry.

Cons

Senior Management (CEO & CFO ) have created a lot of drama and chaos in the organization that has turn staff against each other and has turn SOCMA into a hostile work environment where staff don't even communicate with each other anymore and don't trust each other. Mostly every one sit behind closed doors for the ones who have offices and the rest that have cubicles just are not sociable at all. There is a growing lack of trust and respect from the staff for the CEO & the CFO due to the fact that the staff has been wronged by the two of them on numerous occasions. If you are not one of the favorites of the senior management you are missed for promotions and you will be treated differently than theirs favorites. The disorganization that is currently present in the company is disgraceful you have select individuals that are not given any direction due to the poor leadership and the lack of organization. The staff on numerous occasions are left to fin for themselves and to complete projects without any direction. Last but not least the salaries are below what other similar associations and companies are paying. They work you to death but don' want to pay you for your hard work they short change you.

Pros

Small organization and good work-life balance. Traveled roughly 4-6 times a year domestically for 3-4 days at a time for trade shows and conferences.

Cons

Very limited PR/media budgets makes it difficult to promote/amplify products, programs and activities. the organization's mission/activities is very narrow, hindering ability to attract/retain members.

Pros

Flexible schedule, ample vacation/sick time, great member companies, opportunities to travel depending on your position

Cons

Senior level staff and CEO have competing visions for how to move the association forward. There is no vision to move the company forward and leadership is lacking. There is a lot of talk and very little action. Any "action" is just for show and a way to "prove" to the board that the company is trying to change. Different departments compete against each other and it's "every man for himself" mentality. Most projects have no background research before they are implemented, or you'll be assigned a project that gets cancelled half way through. Decisions are made based on one person's ideas and not on any supporting data of what the association should be offering to members. You'll be required to work on projects year after year that you know are going to fail. Also a lot of gossiping and drama among the leadership that filters down to lower levels. Negative vibe all the time.
