High Pay for No Work. BORING. - Intern SSL Employee Review

Pros

The pay is high considering you do absolutely nothing. Everybody is surfing the web and doing anything but work. The people working there are very friendly and are always open to just hanging out in the office because they are doing absolutely nothing. You take long lunches and us company time to do your own thing, such as read a book, study for the GRE, pay bills, watch videos on you tube. It's all fun for about a week and then you kind of get sick and tired of it so you start showing up at work late and leaving early.

Cons

You wonder why you go to work when you don't actually do anything. Everything at Loral costs money. If you want to drink water that is not from the tap you are suppose to join the water club!! It's not expensive but who the hell has a water club in their company. The company several years ago was in chapter 11 so it has cut down costs in a lot of areas. You find yourself having to provide most of your own things. The cafeteria is expensive even though the food is delicious. In a week you might have spent about $100 just having lunch there. The atmosphere is very old and the company does little outside work activities.

Pros

-very nice coworkers -company sponsors a ton of internal training - internal switching around jobs is encouraged- that is awesome - management tries to give anonymous surveys and do R2D2 efforts to help the company - if you work hard and manage time well, you can get away with regular 40-45 work hours most weeks - people willing to help and answer questions

Cons

- very slow.. HR is slow, parts take forever to get ordered.. things to be expected of a larger aerospace company - moral is SUPER low currently. Most of my group is depressed with the current job, where the company is headed, and our career opportunities at Loral - management doesn't know how to make company more efficient - unfortunately we don't get bonuses or raises, although it's a possibility this year - company doesnt recognize people too often. If you do well, you get more work even if you are newer to the group - performance-based bonus, if given, is based on how many years you've worked at Loral (what sense is this making?) - Pay low, benefits keep slipping every half year something major gets cancelled (worsen plan for glasses and PPO medical plan this round..) - before major layoffs, severance package is usually worsened - no innovation at all - it's unfair to blame the company here, as this is primarily driven by the customer (everyone wants proven parts)
