Pros

There are 2 restrooms. There's a fridge.

Cons

Where do I begin... 1. Micromanagement to no-management: No direction is ever given for projects, but if a mistake is made they belittle and bully you and feel forced to micromanage you but then return to give no direction. It is an endless vicious cycle. Poor management. 2. Millennials: Discouraging environment for all millennials. Constant bullying, and bottom line make you feel uncomfortable by their nasty remarks that they have no shame in sharing with the entire office. 3. Collaboration: There is no room to collaborate with management. Advice is frowned upon, or even made fun of...again! They are accustomed to keeping everyone like robots where no one is encouraged to be creative or share ideas for progress. 4. Hostile Environment: As previously stated, they have no understanding of how a work environment should be. People are usually forced to quit when situations get out of hand because management is afraid of confrontation. 5. HR: There is no actual HR department, there is no one in the office to go to when you feel attacked or have a complainant. There is no one looking out for the interest of the worker there. Payroll is in charge of "handling" the issues. CA labor laws are constantly being broken here. Be sure to be well informed on the types of laws that apply here. 6. No privacy: You are constantly being watched 24/7 on all the things you do, even when you get up to go to the restroom.

Pros

Love working with this company who has a real passion for children safety and educating the school bus community. They have the best conferences around assisting in workshops and highly educated transportation conferences are the best. They are always open to new ideas and possibilities. They have created a green bus transportation workshop as well that is extremely popular. STN's Chief Content Officer has been with the company 15 years is loved by the transportation community and school bus community. He is compassionate, open minded, and the cornerstone to the brand and what STN stands for. He's always been nothing but hard working and thrives on employees who are a team player. I enjoyed the small, relaxed atmosphere where employees where many hats. I've enjoyed freelancing for them full time and have known the company for many years. I've enjoyed working with all of the staff including the advertisers and am amazed by the diversity in the work place. They hire women, minorities, people of all ages and put equal opportunity first and foremost. There is always room for growth, so as long as you are willing to step up to the plate. If you just come in expecting to do the bare minimum, that's not how you grow and that is not how you stand out as an employee. Employees here stand out by pulling their weight and doing their absolute best. Finally, having worked for the company for years now, I can say that there is not a high turn over rate. On the contrary, there are people that have been at STN Media faithfully for years and years. I've worked for companies that offered poor health insurance with high deductibles. I've also worked with LARGE companies with ZERO and I mean NO 401k plans. This company offers the BEST Kaiser insurance, by far. Nothing compares and trust me, I've seen my fair share. Although, I now freelance for them when I was working full-time, the insurance was amazing and the 401K as well. The Chief Content Officer is amazingly understanding when it comes to taking personal time off. He's always bringing in fresh and new ideas to grow the company and build out the conferences. The publisher and owner is always within reach and is a sweetheart. The Chief Content Officer and the Publisher are very supportive of ensuring that morale is high in the office. I love how everyone including freelancers are taken to lunch once a month as well.

Cons

I completely disagree with the negative review here written from a former employee that did not carry his weight. But, the environment is now much better now that he is no longer here. It’s a fictitious and bogus write up coming from an individual who didn't fit with the company. It's a very small environment, so choosing the right people for the right job is highly very important.

Pros

-Amazing and considerate co-workers who all try to make the best of a rough situation

Cons

-Unprofessional, inept, myopic and careless managers who have the tendency to be vindictive, petty and mean -Leadership style fluctuates between micromanaging and aloof -No professional growth, inconsistent/substandard (and often confusing and contradictory) direction and unsupportive attitudes -Stagnant atmosphere from management that belittles and smothers attempts to present new ideas or insights on stories (it gets rather dull to write the same story several times over the course of a year) -Stressful and dispiriting work environment for staff with high turnover, especially those who work for the Editor (and self-appointed CCO) -Agist and sexist (frequent criticisms of millennials and undervaluing/condescending attitudes toward women) -Deny raises/promotions for arbitrary reasons, threaten to take away promised promotions as a means of control -Terrible benefits, especially vacation time (only five days accrued over the year that don't roll over, and you only get boosted to 10 days after three years). -No active HR department
