Pros

If you are going into the medical field this is a great position. It gives you a chance to get a "behind the scenes look" of how an ER runs. Many of the doctor and nurses are great! The doctors are willing to use many situations as learning opportunities when it is not busy. Scheduling is flexible so as long as your schedule is submitted early and REASONABLE, getting off needed days was easy! The amount of medical knowledge you obtain is AMAZING!!!!!! It doesnt take long to learn meds, lab orders, procedures, etc. Many doctors are helpful with making sure the EMR is correct!! If you make a mistake they will help!

Cons

The training process is a joke!!!! Having a chief scribe reading powerpoint slides to me is really ineffective. I can read on my own!! Just because someone has the title of "chief scribe" doesnt mean that person knows how to explain or effectively train another. I mean, I have seen people who were supposed to be training others on the phone, texting boyfriends, on Facebook and other things that are supposed to be "inappropriate". During downtime, they should be working with trainees instead of being on the "your on your own"mantra without explanations of mistakes. I have seen other scribes yell at trainees for "asking too many questions". Isnt that what training is for? Then turn around and tell a new scribe that "they didnt ask the dr enough questions". Some chief scribes treatment of new scribes is downright insulting and embarrassing. There is a difference in someone being firm verses being berated at the nurses station in front of everyone! It truly is ridiculous!! I believe trainers should be people in the company like the project leaders not someone who has been there a few months and doesnt know how to train. The people in the head offices have NO idea what goes on when no one is looking.... With any job, some coworkers are nice but most just seem to be there to kiss the doctors butt in hopes of getting the infamous LOR. The doctors and nurses seem to be more accepting of making mistakes than Chief Scribes! No one is perfect! I have seen the chief scribes make many mistakes themselves so I dont understand why they are so harsh with new scribes.

The ScribeAmerica paid training program has proven enormously successful over the course of the company's growth, and is constantly being updated based on changing needs. Those employees with the responsibility of training others are regularly evaluated for continued competency and quality assurance. Training locations are varied based on the facility's availability, and at times leadership will change the training environment for the benefit of the employees. A certain portion of the training program certainly places the burden on the employee to be engaged, maintain focus, self-teach, and retain the applicable material. Though some employees may not see the value of the classroom training portion of the program, it is essential in building the foundations of successful floor training (or clinical training) due to the focus on medical terminology, orientation to the industry, and practice scenarios. Success in our training program is directly correlated to the commitment of the employee to learn in even the most challenging of environments - after all, medical facilities are fast-paced and dynamic environments that change dramatically and frequently. Only those employees who can successfully navigate through perceived distractions and deficiencies will find success as a medical scribe and be suitable for a potential future career in the medical field.
