Pros
It can be a simple job as long as there are no calls to respond to. It keeps you busy regardless of the amount of calls. There's always something to do that can pass the time.
Cons
I watch three plants and 5 smaller buildings. It's too much for one security guard per shift. No benefits. Terrible vacation pay system. No paid sick days. You must come and respond to medicals with whatever sickness you have. Crappy hours. I'm working 12 hour shifts, 60 hours per week, because no one will accept the work load. We've been trying to hire for three months and have gone through 4 people simply unable to accept the load. Management is not trained to listen to the grunts. My supervisor does nothing about anything. Only half of what I do is truly security. Throw some maintenance and secretary work and the occasional taxi driver and we're close to my job description. 5 week hiring process for my client.
