This is a false feedback provided by an intern who was with the company for less than a month. Since the claim is on public forum, I have to put forward the company's side as well.
Firstly some brief about this intern - He joined us on Feb 17th, 2022 and didn't even finish one month of internship. Initially he did a good job but halfway through his first month, he stopped responding, when asked for updates. When the HR contacted him, he said he is unable to manage both college and internship. The HR respected his decision & let him leave the internship. But as a professional courtesy, he still had to finish the task on hand.
The intern then asked about his stipend & Internship certificate. The HR was extremely understanding & said that stipend would be paid in the first week of April, as his stipend would be due (As per the company schedule, that was due and paid in first week of April). He still didn't finish his work and started threatening that he would finish the task on hand only after receiving the stipend & the certificate.
So here is the response for his claims -
I would like to start with point 3(Lots of work & extended timings) - How is lots of work be a negative thing for an Intern who has joined here to learn and master his skills without paying out-of-the-pocket. Yes office timings are 10am - 7pm. But, if a person doesn't complete the task assigned or reply on time to numerous calls & messages, the work timings get extended. Other members of the team suffer due to your unresponsiveness during work hrs. Nobody forces you to work on holidays, and if someone has worked, he has been paid for that day rightfully.
For point 1(Disrespectful) - We don't consider anyone robot or disrespect anybody. Accountability is a part of professional life and we ask for updates 2- 3 times a day in a wfh set up and if you think this is too much to handle and make you a robot, we are sorry, but then there would be a communication gap and there would not be any learning nor work. Updates are asked so that the the employees are not stuck at any point.
For point 2 (Unprofessional) - We are also humans here and there might have been one off yawning episode and this makes us unprofessional? Don't you ever yawn in your life!!
For point 4 (Unpaid Stipend) - Stipend issue was already communicated that it will be paid in first week of April. When we hire anybody for job/internship, we incur costs for hiring, onboarding and training that person. So, technically there wouldn't be any stipend to someone who has not completed even a month of internship/job. Still, the HR clearly mentioned that the stipends are calculated in the first week of next month and any part month stipend is paid along with next full month stipend. So this person would receive it in first week of April. We have never said that stipend will not paid for trial period. Any doubts with the offer letter terms , should have been clarified before accepting those terms. I think the intern here is expecting some kind of advance payment for learning.
For the Advice you have given to us - We have provided internship for more than 400 interns since inception. There has been same kind of work load. For any personal emergencies, or college classes you got to talk to your seniors & management.
Here is an advice to you - Professional life has different set of rules than your home or school and requires accountability. Please communicate as and when needed and respond to the mentors, seniors or for that matter, any teammates on time. If you are unable to work, admit that, instead of deflecting, disappearing and creating hurdles for others.
