Pros
Bartending was consistently a party. The atmosphere was fast-paced with bottles flying and big games always playing. They only hire attractive outgoing people so there is a feeling of prestige.
Cons
Having been in the service industry for 7 years I left after 6 weeks. The disorganization, the lack of respect, and the favoritism made it hard to cope. It was a dog-eat-dog environment where being thrown under the bus by other employees was easy to come by. Management picked favorites to get cut first and didn't understand bar dynamics enough to give everyone equal opportunities. Not to mention the rumor mill that stacked so high against the servers and bartenders.
I left a restaurant that felt like a second family to work here only to find out bartenders would be constantly thrown to wolves and caught in each other's blame. My best friend also left after 2 months because she found out the managers were partying with their favorite servers outside of work.
