Pros
You get to work on various exciting and cutting-edge projects. You have the flexibility of creating new ideas, working on really impactful technologies/products, writing papers, going to conferences, etc. Overall it's a good mix of applied research and practical development.
Cons
The lab is relatively small and is not very well known in the US. People have to work hard for get fundings from the business groups in Japan. The inter-cultural communications require some extra time and energy.
