Pros

Good pay ish. Works great if you have a great team and asst manager.

Cons

Upper management picks favorites and rewards/raises/promotes whimsically. Worthless meetings are forced down your throat along with constant “We are family” cult rhetoric. While they work you way over hours but only pay you for 40 in some gray area of exempt employee status while you undergo the brunt of the labor which will be back-breaking. Terrible waste disposal management. Huge umbrella corporation with terrible internal communication. “Too many captain, not enough sailors” Nothing can get done efficiently. Impossible sales budgets that change mid to late year. “Moving the goal post”. Handled Covid poorly, took away 401k match during Covid while also forcing to work while not having any employees and maintaining 80 hour work weeks. Almost no compensation or raise while they boast consistent year over year record profits. Outrageously raise material costs pushed onto the store which competes against inhouse distributor which competes against inhouse plant. Contractors/business’s are catered to the point they constantly threaten to take business elsewhere unless they purchase your product for 1990’s value, thus killing your margins and operating profit(bonus) because the “sales reps” change their prices without recourse. Forced to move district to district for advancement to be forgotten about. People that had been working for 15 years were making less than people coming in. Truly a company that favors turn and burn.

Pros

A positive work environment. The best co-workers I have had so far in my career worked with me at Sherwin. I also worked under an amazing management team. There is a lot of room for career growth. I worked for Sherwin for about 3.5 years. I started as a contracted lab technician, then I was hired full time as an R&D Associate Chemist. I quickly worked my way up to R&D Chemist within a year of being hired full time. The department I worked in was very fast paced, however, I know there are many other groups that move at a much slower pace with longer timelines. This would make it much easier to manage the workload.

Cons

Working with marketing was challenging at times. We would regularly receive big requests a day before they needed something. This would pose a challenge when you had other priorities to attend to. The pay was average. I do think it could have been slightly higher for all of the job responsibilities given to the chemists in my group specifically. The workload was overwhelming at times.
