Pros
Casual work environment. Co-workers are friendly and give more passion than the company deserves. Most people who worked below upper management were passionate about working in the gaming environment and wanted to give the best product they could. (Pro for the management, this is easy to exploit)
Cons
- 0-hour contracts. The amount of hours you'll get depends on your friendliness with the management. - Minimum wage, no bonuses, no raises. Even if you got a contract, your pay wouldn't change much, just the possible job security. - Sometimes positions of leadership are given to friends who shouldn't be in that position, to the detriment of projects. - Non-native speakers might be prioritised for LQA projects as they could provide multiple coverage for languages. Unfortunately, this would lead to issues in the localisation process. People would be overstretched on projects and asked to review the languages they weren't even currently working on. (More work, but no bonuses) - Lack of consistency. You might get lucky and stay on the same project. You might get bounced around each day of the week on multiple platforms and languages. Then have to attempt to play catch-up while getting nagged about things being behind. None of this would be relayed to the client, who for good reason would then be frustrated by unexpected and unexplained delays. - Bullying and gas-lighting from some management. - Lack of transparency. - Mass lay-offs. - Some people were not informed and, in the end, would never get a call-back to work, thanks to the 0-hour contracts. - Constant confusion and reshuffling of the business. - Equipment and resources will be sent out or allocated with poor documentation. This would mean that the next project starting may not have the equipment promised to work on. Obviously, this would cause additional delays and stress which would not be relayed to the client. - IT whittled down to nothing with a poor ticketing system. - Continuously moving to different countries with lower pay, then complaining about the outcome. - No bonuses for the people carrying the work, but high level management are still getting theirs. - Tone-deaf company announcements talking expanding in other countries, while you lay off everyone in the UK. - A CEO who likes to brag about her motorcycle and never apologising.
