Pros
Company provides immense work life balance and benefits. Ample outing opportunities. No bar on expenses during official visits, in most cases. Company takes care of its employees health and comfort. People start and end their career in this company. All people are friendly and top management is approachable.
Cons
No proper structure. No hierarchy. No set job description ex- a sales person may be asked to work on research in the mechanical department or vice versa. Promotions based on likeability. If your boss likes you, no matter what is your contribution, you may get double promotion. If your boss does not, no matter if you save 1 million dollars monthly, you will never get a hike or promotion. These issues are more pronounced in the Sourcing department. Never join the Sourcing department, the head of this department has no background or idea of what management is but has a big inflated ego. No matter what you do, if you can moisturize him, you will get a hike and promotion. Very revengeful in nature and may try to destroy your career. But thankfully the HR department is still not dysfunctional and the values are still present. Thus may not be successful but who knows in future. No one wants to work under him as he has no idea what he wants. For example today he will tell you to visit a certain place tomorrow. And tomorrow he will call you up and ask you where you are. When you say that you have visited this place he will bash you on phone saying he never said such a thing. If you keep quiet and accept your mistake (which was never yours) he MAY be satisfied and try not to destroy you career. But if you say, Sir you only said to visit, then it will hurt his ego and your career is guaranteed doomed. He knows everything. He has hired you to be a Yes man and a punching bag. Your skills, intent, efficiency, nothing matters. The feedback of your manager does not matter. He is the Supreme Leader and whatever he says is final. Hence, if you want to grow in this department your skills in moisturizing will grow but not professional skills until and unless you actively work for it. Thus my advice, never join the sourcing department. It is a mess. One year before, a great person, who was the second in command to the current head used to manage and was a very able, informative, patient and efficient person. He was a very good managerial bridge between us and the Mad Man. Most of all was a very good human being. But after this person left, the current head did not recruit anyone to replace and acts like Mohd bin Tughlaq. People who have been working for a lot of time in this department are now looking for change as the current head is a big bully. Many resigned without getting an offer just to maintain sanity.
