Cons
Here's a detailed review for any prospective employee so that they are aware of how this company operates (or rather inoperates) before they decide to join this company and take a toll on their mental health. Your work scope will probably not even match your job description that was provided at the time of hiring. Anything and everything can land on your plate and suddenly you are expected to don the hat of a 'project manager' and get work done. They expect someone from a completely different department to take care of HR and admin work and be present in the office till 8 pm just to receive a courier bcoz they do not have the common sense to have admin do their job. Their lack of planning things shows how poorly this company operates and they expect the employee to be a go-getter in their shit-show. When this was flagged with HR head that how can u expect someone to be present in office till 8pm (a female employee) to receive a courier in an industrial place like Okhla where street lights inoperate during evenings and its unsafe to commute late, the HR had the audacity to say - "I have worked there till 9.30 pm at times". Not sure how one can argue with such logic. The level of unprofessionalism here is just wow. For someone who has more than a decade of experience working, it didn't take much time to figure out that this is a typical lala company. The management is extremely unfit to lead and investors should take a closer look at all the reviews here bcoz most of the grievances are common amongst reviewers and are not isolated incidents. The CEO's attitude is extremely toxic and its surprising to think that he has studied from MIT bcoz it doesn't reflect in his behavior or the way he is running this company. Most of the times his decisions or work allocation are typically ego-driven. An experienced hire would totally cringe at this working culture. They say one of their core values is to challenge the status quo. That is untrue. This is not a place where one can have a differing view. Either dont hire experienced ppl if you dont have any trust in the process and if you do hire, make some behavioral changes and walk the talk when it comes to your core values. The management wants "yes-sayers" only and do not want to be told of the things that are going wrong or illogical. Their communication style as well as policies are highly questionable. They create 1000s of groups on whatsapp, pepper employees with too much information and keep assigning random work at any hour and expect updates at any time of the day - whether it is a weekend or not -- doesn't matter. Most of the times the updates are expected from you for projects you are not even a part of but as the CEO expects everyone to be go-getter champs, he would rather u scour all information from the concerned person and shoulder responsibility even if its not in your work scope and update the group rather than expecting the right person to respond. Every day there seemed like a challenge to prove this idiocracy. Micro-management to the core in a nutshell. This company does not have a probation period and you are a confirmed employee from Day 1. While it works for them, it will not work for you. Their hire and fire culture is such that if for some reason you have to resign, you will be obligated to serve 3 months' notice period. However, if they terminate someone out of the blue, they do not even have the decency to honour their own agreement and serve notice to the employee. I dont know how this is even legal but someone should check their unethical hiring and agreement standards and how they evade from such malpractice. When the HR head was asked to honor the agreement and give a months' notice, she quickly retorted that we can decide to not give notice when we see that the employee hasnt spent much time here. Not sure why they dont offer probation then? When she was questioned on this unethical behavior, she was quick to cut the discussion with "Look, we are not giving any notice and if it gets to quoting the agreement, we can cite exceptional circumstances as a reason also." So basically, they will harass you with a clause that's probably in the agreement to save them any legal accountability whatsoever. THIS IS A HUGE RED FLAG. I hope you read the offer letter terms properly and do not make the same mistake I did. It seems like the only person who would stick to this company is someone who is motivated just by money and keeps his mouth shut and doesnt question the irrelevant work scope that gets added to his plate. They do not want to hear a NO even if its reasonable. This is a HUGE question mark on management's intelligence to assume that an employee's capabilities lie in being a jack of all trades and a master of none. The management is so immature that I think before they think of running a company under the garb of energy efficiency, they need to first ignite some lightbulbs in their brains and understand how to be a better human being before they think of running a company just bcoz they have money. Not only are they inadept at being a leader, the massive ego that they carry needs to be checked upon by investors who invest in such a company as Smart Joules.
