Pros

Benefits and the number days off. For management positions you are vested in the pension in only 3 years. Company vehicles depending on the job type. Being of service to a community is rewarding.

Cons

You will not be treated as an asset. Unless you are in a base or office, there will be no camaraderie. You will be watched like you are about to commit a crime. Someone waiting for you to fail so they can inform others. The culture is that in order to look good you need to make someone else look bad. The good old boys culture still thrives although it's hid very well. The lack of trust, faith and knowledge sharing is hindering growth in the field and solutions, or new technologies are not welcome since "it's been done that way for years". There is an absence of construction female leaders in pipeline field work. They work at bases and on small residential projects. Management is afraid of HR and will not protect you.

Pros

There were so many opportunities when I first started ten years ago. Benefits were good but standard. HAD a great reputation of keep good employees.

Cons

All that changed last year when they laid off 2% of their workforce with no prior notice. Morale has gone down. Workload has increased. Upper management is known for conducting interviews while already knowing who they're already going to hire. The do the interviews so they can appear to be fair.
