There is a definite "in crowd" and if you're the right level of brown-noser and professional robot, you're cool with that crowd. But if you're not one of them or one of their pets then you can just enjoy your position for the rest of your life (this isn't my experience, I was able to grow because I worked at an outlying branch so they didn't really know me, this is from seeing my peers go through discrimination on a daily basis.) And if they really didn't like you, they'll find a reason to terminate your employment.
