Pros

-Great benefits, 22 vacation days + 8 sick days -Great people and great culture in sales office, great sales manager, I will miss working there

Cons

-POS is not as good as competitors, but costs more. It seems to be about 10-15 years behind Square and Toast. Hard to sell it as a result, and the churn rate is the highest I’ve seen at any company. -Pay for sales is half market rate, if not less for AEs. This results in extremely high turnover. -Senior leadership seems unwilling/unable to bring the product up to date to compete in an extremely saturated marketplace. -Only vertical we had real success in is smoke/vape shops, which isn’t ideal. -No opportunities for advancement if you’re in sales. -No hybrid/remote work opportunities. -No real sales support so you will be doing a lot of tasks that companies typically have someone to handle for you (collecting documents etc). -Customer service is almost nonexistent in a lot of cases, so the majority of inbound calls you get will be merchants freaking out that they can’t get support.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re glad to hear you valued the culture, your colleagues, and the support from your manager. We also take your feedback on sales compensation and product competitiveness seriously. GlassDoor makes it impossible to know when you worked with us as we’ve made significant improvements to our POS and continue working hard to better support both our merchants and sales teams. You mentioned competitors that we can absolutely win against in the verticals we are focused in. In addition, our US based Cx team answers a vast majority of calls in well under 2 minutes. We’re grateful for your contributions and wish you all the best in your next chapter.

Pros

My time at SumUp as an Account Executive was a truly valuable chapter in my career. From day one, I was impressed by the company’s commitment to its employees — the culture is people-first in every sense. You’re not just a number here; your well-being, development, and growth genuinely matter. One of the key reasons I joined was my manager, AnneMarie. She’s an exceptional leader — intuitive, empathetic, and deeply in tune with her team. Her ability to understand and support people individually created a space where I felt constantly encouraged to grow, even through the natural ups and downs of a sales role. Her leadership was a game changer for me. The role itself isn't easy — as expected in a sales position, you’re responsible for generating your own leads, cold calling, and walking into businesses. What made it all worth it was knowing that leadership at SumUp sees and values hard work and authenticity. When you put in the effort and show up as your genuine self, it’s recognized — and that made a huge difference in my motivation and performance. You are rewarded as well for performance that is solely activity based which was a huge motivator for me in months where I struggled to hit quota or when I first started building my pipeline . Overall, if you're looking for a place where you can grow, be challenged, and be supported by a strong team and inspiring leadership, SumUp is a fantastic place to be. I’m grateful for everything I learned and the relationships I built during my time there.

Cons

Cold calling Driving car package is minimal Better support with merchant retention No protected zip codes

Your points about pipeline building, leveraging top performers, and considering protected zip codes are well taken and will be shared with the relevant teams. We’re always looking for ways to make the experience better for our sales teams, and insights like yours help us grow. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter! We're always striving to grow and improve—thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us.
