Pros

Great location, sits on an old Bayer site with 200 acres of woodland. Great place to get your hands in everything, from ecotoxicology (aquatics, avian and terrestrial), environmental chemistry and field residue, with experience to put on a resume. Bonus can be very good if your department does well and company is feeling generous. The company is very flexible about working alternative schedules, and depending on you team lead, you are able to use comp time instead of personal days for personal matters. CEO is very personable, sets very lofty goals for the company, yet still takes time to visit everyone when he travels to each site.

Cons

Due to the nature of the work and the young age of the company, there is no definitive career paths other than Research Technician>Asst. Res. Scientist>Assoc. Res. Scientist>Res. Scientist. The policy right now is that there is generally 5 years in between each level with very little pay raises or incentives between the positions. The company is working on job descriptions and adding more steps to the levels to add some distinction to the job descriptions. The company needs to work quickly with these plans as most of the employees are well past 40 years of age and at the peak of their careers here, to keep to lower underpaid scientists with the company, there needs to be change and pay raises. At the moment there is a lot of departures of important mid level and lower level scientist that would have been taking over management jobs in a couple of years. Out look for the year looks bleak due to higher lab costs, and increased workload with understaffed teams. Unless new clients are obtained and new avenues of revenue are found, the company with be in dire straits very quickly.
