Might as well be working at Walmart, purposefully keep employees from benefits eligibility! - Customer Experience Coordinator TJ Maxx Employee Review

Pros

Company does attempt to create a culture of respect, equality. Immediate store'level managers and assistant managers are genuinely good, likable, hardworking people - many times, former associates themselves, trying to support families under the TJX Corporate dictatorship. After working here for a while, it begins to feel oddly like family - the immediate store team tends to adopt a "we're all in this together" type of mentality. Lots of genuine, hardworking people on staff...and also too many 'lifers' wasting time here, that could be doing much better for themselves if they could only find the right job opportunity and someone would give them a chance. Apparently people get comfortable and don't try for better (myself included).

Cons

Unsafe at times, with minimal security in the building. Crooks, thieves, return fraud are RAMPANT and this company does VERY LITTLE to NOTHING to stop the abuse. Operates on a wing and a prayer at times, with minimal skeleton crews. Lax on repurcussions for staff that call out sick or late constantly...they can't really afford to lose anyone that is half decent at their job! Ridiculous that they hold back on full-time hours for anyone...even those working at $8.00 an hour, that really want to WORK, and qualify for health insurance/a little vacation time! The company motto is "keep staff just below the minimum hour threshold to be able to qualify for benefits". Shameful, considering how well this company has done for the past decade! Overworked store-level management usually has hands tied with ridiculous budget constraints.

Pros

-flexible and accomodating hours - good partime job for college student - very neutral experience, but the fact that it wasn't terrible makes it a pro -10% employee discount

Cons

-lower pay than other retail places ($12 when I was there) - general cons that just come with retail (rude customers, boring tasks, etc.) - store is constantly being rearranged, and is also disorganized on purpose so customers have to search through/look at more things to find what they are looking for -CONSTANTLY having to push the TJ Maxx credit card and having managers literally walk by to make sure you are - can't wear t-shirts or any graphic tees including ones in the store (which always bothered me because if they can sell it I should be able to wear it)
