Pros
I've read the previous review during my application process 6 months ago and decided to apply regardless, and I'm happy I did so. Almost every single negative aspect that was mentioned before is not negative - or even positive - for me personally: - No room for growth. When you're on a small team, it's true that room for growth is limited. In return you get the cozy family-like feel and close relationships within the team (which is what matters most to me). All depends what you're looking for. - The team is all women. Apart from the fact that I'm a man (being the only man on the team, I guess that busts the whole premise of leaving anonymous reviews), I don't understand why this is a problem. Regardless of your gender though, main thing is - TDOTters are all open and approachable professionals and they are good at what they do (design, copywriting, management etc). I learn a lot from the team, and share my knowledge in return. - No company culture. I insist there is a culture - caring, supportive and open atmosphere, and I'm happy to be a part of it. - No parking. Two parking lots, one in front and one in the back of the building, so plenty of space (old office had parking restrictions, maybe?) - No work-life balance. Work-life balance is one of the best I've seen - my working hrs as well as private time are respected. Work starts at 9 and ends at 5; you get your lunch time; the weekends are also yours. Apart from that there are also Wednesday salad days, Friday drinks and corporate events. If that's not work-life balance, I don't know what else is. - Toxic work environment - management in particular. Again, have never experienced any toxicity at all. I've openly talked about things I thought needed improvement or was able to express ideas openly without ever getting pressured for it. I assume it all depends on the type of personality and the way you present your ideas. - Working remotely is not allowed. For the most part you have to be in office, there are times when you can work remote (snow days, bad weather etc). As long as you notify the team and the management, and are able to do your work properly, it's never a problem. Although it would be good to have a more clearcut policy on remote work, I agree here. Summing up, just like I don't agree with the previous review, I accept that someone won't agree with what I wrote - in any case I encourage everyone to make their own decisions. For me personally reading company reviews was one thing, while going through the interview and seeing the welcoming attitude of the team was the most important contributing factor. TRUEdotDESIGN is NOT a good place to work if: - you are prescriptive and directive in your management and communication - you think you know everything better than others - if you have a macho-type mentality (if you like to dominate vs being a partner) - if you like to micro-manage people and things From what I've seen myself and heard from folks here, whoever practices any of the above, doesn't blend well with the team. Consequently, this generates lots of stress on both parties. Directive and authoritative management style works well will low-skilled environments, which is not the case here. Listen to yourself, reflect on what type of personality you are and then make a decision. TRUDEdotDESIGN is a good place to work if: - you believe in collaboration and know what 'synergy' means - you are ready to ask for help or professional opinion from others (no, this doesn't diminish your professionalism) - you like to be taken care of and like to take care of others - you like to learn something new every day - you thrive in open, creative and supportive environments
Cons
As in case with every small team, there is limited room for growth. On the other hand, I've heard stories of people getting promoted to account directors within a short time span. Would be good to have a more clearly defined policy on remote work. Side projects are not allowed. Organizational structure is for the most part linear, meaning everyone can talk to everyone. If you are used to working on small teams, this is a perfect place to be. If you're looking for more corporate-like career advancement, the place might not be right for you.
