Pros
Good team and flexible time. Good for those who like to talk.
Cons
A bit too laid back. Sometimes boring.
Pros
-Unlike other educational agencies you may find in China, Taurus is genuinely trying to advise and nurture students. It is definitely very rewarding knowing that you are helping these students to realize their dreams -Opportunities to work with the most talented students in China -A better understanding of Chinese education system -Opportunities to start your own project/ event -Great coworkers and supportive management -Five office locations so you get to travel around all of them during marketing season -Company retreats and vacations
Cons
-Expect to work late hours/ at home/ on weekends during application season -Late-night phone calls once in a while from clients -Pressure from managing time, shouldering the responsibility, and managing clients’ expectations -As this is a consulting job, you have to be very patient and attentive when working with clients.
Pros
Taurus routinely hires intelligent kids from some of the top colleges all across the America into becoming "consultants" for their clients. The coworkers are interesting and come from all different backgrounds. The clients, wealth Chinese high school students looking to apply to US high schools, are also, in general, a great bunch of kids that are fun, motivated, and work well with their consultants. In addition, while Taurus does not pay a large salary according to American standards, their monthly salary, year-end bonus, and free rent are more than sufficient to cover living expenses in and around Shanghai.
Cons
Despite claiming otherwise, this company's sole purpose is not to educate students or help them succeed when they arrive in American colleges. Instead, the vast majority of time workers are simply taking an idea that they helped a student come up with and then writing the essay for them. While many of the Chinese students are smart, management ensures that consultants know the final goal is not the well-being of the student but that their essays are polished and comparable to the level of an American high school student. Management is "lost" organizationally and extremely vindictive - know for retaining earned salary after employees give two-weeks notice as well holding 50% of year end of bonuses for those that don't sign up to return for another year of work. In addition, Taurus does not provide the majority of its consultants with work visas. Lastly, the job description provided by Taurus completely misrepresents employee responsibilities. There is no intellectual stimulation or career advancement opportunity when working at this company.
