This is an organization driven by meaning and mission. It is a dynamic place to work. There are lots of talented staff, wonderful students, and thoughtful educators committed to building a progressive and innovative education. The students and the student experience are amazing, as are the variety of programs and learning opportunities. Much of the staff works in teams to create and enhance curriculum and student experiences - so if you jive with your team, it's awesome. It's a really cool opportunity to participate in the conversation about what education needs to become for the future students will inherit.

It's a passionate place full of passionate people. It's a big staff with lots of people, ideas, programs, and needs in the mix - being flexible, collaborative, and communicative are essential. This is not the place to go if you prefer to teach solo or believe there is one right way to do things. If you are adept at perspective taking and like being a part of a team, you will enjoy working here.

Many teachers tried hard despite all the challenges

Even before the Wall Street Journal article about Tessellations made us the laughingstock of the Bay Area, there were so many problems. Ineffective leadership at the top. Endless meetings. Overbearing parents. Teachers and staff quitting or getting fired every year. Kids getting hurt. Families withdrawing their kids midyear. Licensing violations. Schedules and curriculum changing every year. Ongoing lawsuits by 3 former teachers and 1 family. Shutting down the high school with zero notice to families. Giving up giftedness screening to boost enrollment.
