Pros

Office offers free coffee and tea.

Cons

Unrealistic and unhealthy expectations. High demand for next to nothing in compensation. CEO will fire you in a heartbeat if his breakfast order is missing the correct amount of slices of cheese or for some other trivial reason. Revolving door of administrative assistants. No one lasts more than 3 months. No HR department. Expect to have no work-life balance. CEO will text day and night and demand response time be under three minutes among other absolutely insane demands. Depressing place to be employed at. Administrative Assistant role is not clearly defined, responsibilities range from physically cleaning common areas to interacting with high profile political candidates on behalf of CEO. Salary offered because hourly wage would result in large amounts of OT being paid.

Pros

Good hands on experience. Allows for interns to understand what their job will look like entering politics. Get to work for progressive candidates. The management is also super friendly and nice. It’s a really good first step if you’re very passionate and want to enter politics.

Cons

Unpaid. If you do remote it’s not as valuable due to lack of networking opportunities. I suppose if you work very hard you could get a good reference maybe. However it’s so hard to connect with anyone given how it’s structured therefore it’s unlikely. You really don’t interact with anyone day by day. This can be good for some people but if you’re trying to network and build connections it’s not so great. There’s also not a lot of diversity in what you do. Most of its policy analysis and research. They also don’t let you in on what their strategy or angle is.
