Impossible to Manage Work Life Balance - Educational Clinician The Reading Foundation Employee Review

Pros

You get to work with a wide variety of wonderful children and can be a meaningful part of their educational journey.

Cons

If you have any responsibility beyond entry level, you feel like you are always behind and never have a chance to catch up. It can feel like you are always on call as your schedule can change with basically no notice and you are often pressured into working those extra hours so as not to "let the child down." Any boundaries you try to put up are viewed as a failing to fully show up and support the children you work with, which is a horrible feeling. The companies entire policy in addressing children with special needs forces you to focus on what they are not able to do instead of recognizing and celebrating their many strengths and abilities. This can lead to many difficult behaviour problems as children often don't enjoy coming.

Pros

I worked at The Reading Foundation for two years and loved every moment of it. My former colleagues and co-workers were incredibly helpful, kind, and supportive, creating a collaborative and encouraging work environment. It truly felt like a team, where everyone worked together to ensure we stayed on the same page and supported one another. There were days when I struggled at the beginning, but the encouragement and reassurance from those around me made all the difference. Knowing that we were all in it together helped me push through challenges and grow both personally and professionally. Beyond the incredible team, the most rewarding part of my experience was working with the kids. Each child I worked with was bright, curious, and eager to learn, and it was amazing to see their confidence grow over time. Some days were tough, but witnessing their progress, whether it was mastering a new skill or simply gaining more confidence made every challenging moment worth it. My time at The Reading Foundation not only gave me valuable professional experience but also led to lifelong friendships. The bonds I formed with my colleagues extend far beyond the workplace, and I’m grateful to have built relationships that will last a lifetime.

Cons

One challenge I faced was balancing work with my studies. Being a student at the time, there were moments when the workload felt overwhelming, and schedule changes could sometimes be difficult to manage. However, the supportive team environment helped make these challenges more manageable.
