Pros
This is such a unique company to be a part of. Every day we have the opportunity to connect with really fascinating people, genuinely learn about them and their businesses, and find opportunities for them to gain more freedom (regardless of if there is an opportunity for commerce or not). In addition to being a very cool company, with some of the most interesting clients on the planet, the team and the support you get in your role are first-class. We've all also had incredible opportunities for professional development, learning, and self-discovery. Any of the tools that we use to help our clients are available for us to use and be coached on to help develop in our roles and continuously lean into our strengths and be challenged. This is a company where you really have the opportunity to create a role for yourself. My role has continued to evolve over 2 years, and every stretch project or new capability I've wanted to grow has been met with nothing but support and enthusiasm from the leadership team and from my peers around me. The change in compensation that was introduced in 2022 has also brought the compensation much more in line with similar roles in the tech industry, which is a huge improvement.
Cons
This is a hard sales job, especially when you are coming from a B2B sales background. When I negotiated large multi-year software deals for a living, that job was easier than this type of sales role. We are generalists in this role, we need to be versed in and grow capabilities in all stages of the sales cycle and the sales process. It requires broader knowledge and skills than a typical Account Executive's sales role. The positive trade-off of that is we are 100% responsible for our own outcomes and we are well supported to reach them. There are no excuses, no one else to blame if you are not on target, we each have full control of what our pipelines look like, and what results we create. This is not a role for someone looking for the easy button, this is not a role for someone wanting to fly under the radar. This is a role for sales professionals who are driven to achieve mastery of something, and who are self-motivated (batteries included).
