Pros

- Without question, this is the best team of people I’ve ever worked with in my entire life. Everyone is so smart, so talented, so kind, and so helpful. The Works team is a team in the best sense of the word - everyone pulls together. - The management is humble and progressive in that they are always looking at how to evolve and improve their offerings and business model. They make smart decisions and significant investments in training and technology so that staff can support growth, and make the company better. - The quality of work produced is outstanding. The creative (both writing and design) is something you can really stand behind and be proud of. It’s a good feeling when you are able to make clients happy, rather than being asked to rush work and deliver something sub-standard. Quality matters here (rather than speed or price.) - New ideas, well researched, are always welcomed. All opinions matter. - Generous flex-time policy, great summer hours, generous vacation/paid-time-off policy. - If you are looking for a mentor, you’ll find one here. The Works is a multi-generational workplace and lots of people here have 15 or even 25 years of experience in strategy, design, typesetting or copywriting under their belts. They have seen it all, and are generous with wisdom and guidance. - Personal issues (be it health, family matters, a disability) are handled by management and colleagues with grace and compassion. If you care about this place, this place will take care of you when you need it most.

Cons

- The standards are quite high. You are expected to bring your best each day. But, this tends to bring out your best, and there are resources around to support you and help you learn. - Sometimes, short-term needs of clients will have to be put before your personal plans. - Backfilling roles after staff departures takes time because to reduce turnover, the bar is set very high. However, hiring decisions are almost universally good. - The administrative load can be heavy, but changes are being made in this area.

Pros

When I started at the Works in September 2018 for my 4-month co-op term, I never expected that 4 months later I wouldn't want to leave to go back to school! At the beginning of my work term, I was welcomed into the studio with open arms by every employee. It was very evident to me that each employee at The Works wanted to contribute to making my work term as successful as possible. Everyone in the studio brings something to the table, as everyone has a vast skill set and knowledge to contribute to the company. I can easily say that it is the best group of people I have had the pleasure working with. The jobs and projects that flow in and out of The Works studio are each completed with a high level of dedication, quality and precision by each employee. I personally could not believe how detail oriented each employer was to ensure that each job was successfully completed. I am grateful for the many opportunities that my 2018 Fall work term at The Works Design Communications provided me with, allowing me the chance for tremendous personal improvement by encouraging me to take risks and see how high I could reach. I would like to recognize The Works for being such an outstanding employer during my 2018 work term. Their contributions to the Dalhousie Co-op program and my personal success are being recognized at Dalhousie's Co-op Awards night by being a finalist for Top Co-op Employer in 2018! I would highly recommend The Works as an employer as they take so much pride in making sure that their employees are a priority.

Cons

There are 0 bad things about The Works that I can point out.
