Pros

- Nice office location next to Westfield Mall, above a BART Station on Market St. - Good snack, benefits, pay, and unlimited PTO (which most people really take advantage of). - Good work/life balance. Most people are allowed to come and go as they please. - Low pressure job with few unreachable deadlines. - Culture is pretty fun and relaxed. - Data Privacy is a growing industry

Cons

While some of the PROs are great, the CONs are making the company complacent and a failure. Layoffs and turnover have become commonplace. The company got rid of their EMEA operations, trimmed over 40% of the workforce over the past few years: - There is no sense of urgency or ownership to do your job really well. Most management lacks the ability to inspire or motivate. - Favoritism is rampant. If management likes you, they nurture and feed you. Otherwise, you are on an island. No internal career development (aside from Privacy certifications which are paid by the company). - PTO and WFH is constantly abused. Much of the sales team rarely come into the office - Sales/Account Management collude to retain clients by stretching deliverable. - Revenue and growth has steadily declined. As a proclaimed "leader in data privacy management", product innovation has fallen flat. - No accountability by most people, a system learned by management. Many good people have been left but management hasn't taken any responsibility for the companies lack of success. The buck stops with you!

Where we agree: TRUSTe has a great environment & location, solid work/life balance, awesome people, huge successes AND even more potential. Where we disagree: the title of your review is “Turnover and Layoffs Common." Last year was tough, but it was a rare and painful hiccup that was entirely out of our control (EU’s Safe Harbor was ruled invalid). Aside from that, there have been no other recent layoffs, and our annual turnover percentage (for the last 4 years since we started tracking it) is consistently well below the technology industry standard. That doesn’t mean we think we’re perfect. We’re taking aggressive steps to ensure we're ready for a steep increase of business demand (and success). We’re focusing efforts in the following areas: • Improving our communication on high level goals for the company, departments, teams, and individuals • Improving the sense of urgency and ownership through better performance evaluation and reward programs • Providing Managers with training so they can inspire, motivate, and give solid action oriented feedback (and hold their reports accountable) • Providing open communication about what it takes to succeed at TRUSTe (to avoid any unintended favoritism). This includes defining what success is for sales - how often should they be in the office and how much time should be out with clients (normally we like our salespeople to be out of the office with clients!) • We’ve formed a new team of employees that we’re calling the IMPACT team to focus on many of the other areas you recommended we address (Culture, events, celebrations, benefits, training topics, and rewards) We are excited about the near and long term future of TRUSTe (EU Privacy Shield and GDPR are exciting opportunities for us). As the privacy industry leader we have great plans for a very successful future. We’re sorry that your experience here wasn’t as positive as you’d hoped it would be. We’re working hard to ensure others have a much better experience.
