Pros

The students, staff and mission of the University gets 5 stars. Incredible people with incredible hearts.

Cons

Management has a mindset of "this is the way it has always been done, therefore, this is how we will do it" while the entire higher education landscape changes around them. Their motto is: "We are always moving at 100 mph" which is essentially an acceptance of mediocrity. This attitude stifles innovation/collaboration and causes the most talented staff members to leave. Management gives no feedback as they are uncomfortable with receiving feedback themselves which makes it very difficult to develop as a professional. Additionally, you are promoted based on how well you enforce outdated policies, not based on any type of performance review or actual leadership ability. If you are interested in helping students succeed, this is not the place for you as the people in charge will choose whatever is easiest for them as opposed to the decision that helps the student. As admissions is the outward facing office that deals with students most frequently, this is very upsetting.

Pros

Great institution serving a diverse student population. Plenty of interesting research labs. Decent benefits.

Cons

Commuter school so traffic and parking can be terrible. Select your PI wisely, and ensure healthy work life balance.
