Pros

Incredible exposure to the UN & international development world. Goes a really long way on your CV. Interesting work to be a part of, and fully immersed within the team. Your opinions are genuinely valued and once you've proved yourself you can be given real responsibility. Very friendly office, people are kind and eager to mentor. My team were wonderful.

Cons

For an internship the pay was very good, but still not nearly enough for the amount of work you do. During key moments it can be very high stress and very heavy workload, but this usually passes again. A lot of admin.

Pros

Good benefits, you really do help people

Cons

Human Resources takes a highly specialized approach to talent management. In that you cannot really change functions easily in UNHCR. You have to hyper-specialize in one area. So if you are a protection staff, you tend to burn out from trauma without an internal mechanism to alleviate the burnout. The higher you go in UNHCR, the crazier you become.
