Pros

Some of the colleagues are nice (not all) and the building is great.

Cons

To begin with, I am very suspicious of UNOPS' employer rating on Glassdoor. According to a recent KPMG report concerning UNOPS' behavior as an employer, UNOPS has an extremely toxic culture. The terrible reviews of Glassdoor on trustpilot suggest that there may be some manipulation going on.  Particularly since many of the ratings read the same way and are all 4 stars. There is no doubt that UNOPS is one employer that you should avoid at all costs. Their Human Resources Department, currently called People and Culture Group (their name changes often as they try to rebrand themselves). They are inept, elitist, and on several occasions have been fraudulent to various employees.  Several PCG personalities claim any work that has been done and fail to give credit where credit is due. I was gaslighted and lied to by a senior member of PCG's team. Numerous other employees were also affected. A recent crisis when $63m went missing pushed numbers of staff, including myself, to breaking point. There is no provision for staff welfare. We received no support from the executive team or PCG, not even a sympathetic ear.   UNOPS has countless employees who aren't performing to a satisfactory level in their jobs. For years, they are left alone and allowed to continue. Complaining about their performance is construed as bullying. Although you are doing your best to manage your role, the toxic positivity in UNOPS is all-pervasive and any criticism is met with denial and "be kind". The management has an air of superiority and cannot be challenged. I had a colleague attempt to take over my role for years, she wanted to carry remove my duties from me and has succeed after I left this organization . This was allowed in spite of it being a clear case of bullying. The level of racism at UNOPS is shocking. A number of senior directors make derogatory racist remarks, including one who is a senior member of the ethics department.  Senior management receives lucrative staff positions, as do their friends. Even if your position is considered a core position, you will not be offered a staff position, and you will be paid 40% less than your equivalent staff position, without a pension or healthcare coverage (they will offer you schemes that you are required to pay for). You will be accused of being disruptive if you challenge this. There appears to be a refusal by IAIG (internal audit and investigations) to investigate wrongdoing by anyone who has a good relationship with their management. Moreover, one of their senior team members is accused of leaking details of many investigations to their colleagues and friends. When it came to my case, they were not even concerned about maintaining my anonymity, gossiping about me and e-mailing colleagues without my consent. The executive team is well aware of this, but the person remains in the position.  The UNOPS systems are antiquated and unfit for purpose. You'll find that every HR process is run on paper forms. There are many problems with the ERP, which is ancient and does not function as an ERP should in 2023. It doesn't even have HR capabilities. There is a leviathan department called IPAS that manages every process in the organization. Most of the processes are poorly or overly aggressively run by IPAS. Overall, I would not recommend this employer. At the start of your career, if you are interested in working for the UN and would not mind being treated poorly, then it might be worth your while. Don't even consider it if you are a seasoned professional. Initially, they will promise you the world to get you through the door, but once you are there they will treat you badly.
