Pros

The network of people you work with inside and outside your facility is countless. Working in a small department such as dietary lets you have a closer connection with your staff and lets you manage them better. Your paid time off accrual rate increases with the number of years working for UPMC. For myself, it will be 12 years in 8/09.

Cons

Working in long term care is difficult because processes move very slow around here. It can take weeks to months and even years to get something completed within a department. We waited 3 years to have part of our dietary kitchen that is over 20yrs old remodeled and it still isn't efficient enough. Also, the yearly perfomance review only gets you a very SMALL raise and you don't get any other kind of raise but that small percent once a year! HARDLY even worth it!

Pros

you can set your own schedule, you can work hybrid/remote if you're meeting metrics

Cons

god awful to work for, they will over work you then blame you when you dont take your lunch breaks or when you go into overtime. you have to be READY to sustain the demand of this job fr. inconsistent pay raises (if any). management is incredibly difficult and moody and cliquey. when they like you they'll be helpful, when they don't, your clients will suffer because of it and you will take the blame from both sides
