Pros

Great workplace culture in the corporate environment - I have worked in several positions at UPMC. The culture here is phenomenal. My boss and coworkers were so kind and supportive to me. They demonstrated dignity and respect every day. - UPMC works very hard to promote a diverse and inclusive culture. There are many ERGS for employees to join, including the newly clreated DXN (diversity experience network) ERG for corporate employees.

Cons

LOW PAY - UPMC has more than 90,000 employees and has a great reputation in the healthcare field. However, they do not pay a competitive salary. Employees knows this and constantly complain about it. The new CEO decided to pay every employee $500 for thanksgiving of 2021 as a thank you bonus, but it was actually $380 after tax and that's not enough for most people that's being underpaid every day at work. At my current role at another company, I'm earning $20,000 more than my former role at UPMC, and it's the same exact position at both organizations! UPMC's biggest competitor in western PA is AHN/Highmark. They may be a smaller and lesser known organization, but AHN/Highmark consistently pay higher salaries compared to UPMC and they do a better job retaining their employees (their employees stay much longer than employees at UPMC).
