Pros
Flexibility at the local level, good/knowledgeable people, caring local leadership. Local offices all have their own culture, my office was fantastic, but local leadership has their hands tied behind their backs by USI corporate.
Cons
Low pay, service staff extremely under-valued. “Everyone’s replaceable” is the leadership mantra. Office space in buldings in need of repair and updating (mold, insect infestations). Those capable and uncomplaining are loaded with work of staff they choose not to replace. USI steals earned vacation time and money from people who leave mid-year. Private equity company, growth by acquisition. High fail-rate of new sales people, entire book of business bought unless on Employee Benefits side. Promotions are unheard of, though lateral moves are tolerated. Promises made upon hire by inexperienced HR staff are not true and you’ll be asked “what makes you so special?” when you question it. Not vested in 401k until 5 years of service. (Not uncommon, but there are better companies and plans). Poor IT infrastructure that is not upgraded with acquisitions resulting in slow, unusable systems to accomplish work. All benefits, including 401k are administered by USI to the company’s, not employee’s benefit. i.e. not Fidelity, so investment options are limited.
