Very low starting pay ($15/hr) for a job that is physically taxing and often done in extreme weather.
Consistent heavy lifting leads to back and joint pain with little to no support for physical well-being.
Poor communication from leadership. There’s a clear disconnect between management and the ramp agents.
Supervisors and leads are often just “warm bodies” filling a role — many lack leadership experience or accountability.
No consistency between shifts. Each team seems to do things their own way, creating confusion and inefficiency.
On-the-job training is disorganized and not thorough. My initial training involved sitting in a room reading a book aloud with others — not practical or hands-on.
Flight benefits are extremely misleading. On a Delta contract, you fly on the lowest priority (S4) and have to pay yield fare — around $800 round-trip for two people ATL to Paris standby, or $80 ATL to NYC round-trip standby for one. Not worth the hype.
