Pros
Stable, great state benefits, on-site gym, paid time to exercise, incentives to get healthy, free parking, covered parking as it becomes available, good insurance
Cons
No why to move up or out of your current position, hard to cross-over to another position, some managers can be "stuck in the past" with old ways of thinking, people tend to stay so moving around is very difficult, reviews are set up in a way that makes it hard to receive a good one, salary is lower than mid stream or the private sector which is why the benefits are good. Raises depend on the economy. I was there for six years and only saw one raise across the board for everyone. No matter how well your review everyone gets 2%.
