Pros

Work life balance is great. Curriculum is excellent.

Cons

Pivoting constantly, distracted by whatever is new and shiny. Team isn't involved in any decision making ever. Team input and expertise is not respected in the slightest. Absolutely no sustainability plan.

Pros

The mission as it's written is good. There are meaningful opportunities to help kids. Hours are generally flexible. People outside of upper management are great to work with.

Cons

Pay is low, particularly for women, which is interesting given the company's mission. But the real killer here is that the top management and "the board" (AKA their friends) are a nightmare. They love the process of starting up, which tracks for a lot of venture capitalists, but that's as far as they know how to go. Constant pivoting because when the organization is steady, they get bored. Absolutely no financial sense, especially devastating for a nonprofit. No follow through, no ability to plan. You as an employee are a tool at best, and you can be fired, laid off, or otherwise disregarded regardless of your performance. It's devastating to see how many times this org lets down the kids they serve and the employees who serve them because doing good work consistently is "boring." VentureLab is essentially a vanity project for people with unfathomable amounts of money, but don't expect to see any of that money go toward you or the cause.
