Pros

They’re going away at the end of this year - the alphabet benefits

Cons

All the talent is leaving, especially after two key leaders in the product/research development announced their departures late last year. Leadership does silent layoffs so as not to gain media attention but does not acknowledge them internally - expected to do multiple people’s jobs, had been told for over a year that headcount would be hired and it never happened. Thought this was going to my long term job. One thing Verily does well - marketing a brand to make it seem successful despite not having any sustained profit or product since its founding. If I had known the environment would have been like this, I would have never joined - no amount of money or benefits is worth what is probably the most toxic environment I’ve ever worked in. This isn’t “google x” or “google life sciences ” anymore despite people putting that 8 year old statement on their LinkedIns. It’s a failing startup with inexperienced and incompetent leadership. If you want to work at Google, apply to Google.

Thank you for leaving your review and we’re sorry to hear you had this experience while you were at Verily. We hope that you shared more information as a part of your exit interview and encourage you to reach out to PACT directly at Verily-PACT@google.com if you'd like to provide additional feedback. Verily moves quickly and there have been several changes as the business has evolved in recent months, which we know can be challenging. As it relates to organizational changes, we make efforts to be as open and transparent as possible, while respecting the privacy of any employees who may have been directly affected. In practice that means that we may not be able to share as much detail as you’d like to have right out of the gate, or we may not be able to communicate as quickly as you’d like to hear. We are committed to continuing to do all we can to communicate openly and transparently and ensure that current employees know what's happening across the business. As relates to our benefits, Verily’s go-forward benefits are not going away at all - we’re staying with our same providers and offering nearly identical medical, dental and vision plans and no changes in premiums from 2024 to 2025. We know strong benefits are one of the many reasons Veeps are drawn to Verily and this is not changing. Thanks again for sharing, and we thank you for all you did while you were at Verily. We wish you all the best in your next role.

Pros

Work life balance is good, there are many smart people working here that do some incredible work.

Cons

Very flat org structure. Everyone is a senior engineer here. Leadership is very unclear in their direction and pay is at the bottom end of market. Poor management of the company financials has led to over a year of equity being completely missed and pre-existing equity being devalued by 90%. Office politicts are strong here and teams are very protective of their work. dont expect to move laterally or work on different projects here. the team you join is where you will stay.
