Politics reign supreme. Policies are not uniformly applied, Promises are not kept.
The benefits you are promised when you start working there will probably change, most likely to less that what was promised originally. Money influences decisions. Compensation varies wildly nor should you expect raises but be thankful when they come. it, particularly if you cross a monied donor.
