Pros

-Gorgeous place to live and work, lots of fun activities on the ranch and in town. -Good tips split evenly between all employees except for management. -Housing is actually pretty good for a seasonal job. Food is great--three meals provided every day except for saturday evenings. "Luxury" aspect certainly shows. -Fun work envirnoment, I got along well with most of my coworkers. -Upper management is wonderful, genuinely willing to help and will go above and beyond to make sure you are doing well. Very nice and form genuine connections with each employee. -Management would occasionally plan activites on/off the ranch and off work for employees. Many people also go on weekend trips during their time off. Not difficult to get days off. -Genuine once in a lifetime experience, you will walk away with new friends and many, many stories to tell.

Cons

-Living and working with the same people can get very tiring and will create for some drama. -Cliques form which can sometimes be isolating. -Definitely leans way more conservative in terms of the types of people that work on/visit the ranch. As a queer person, I always felt slightly uncomfortable but never had any directly bad experiences with anyone, but I did feel like an odd one out at times. -Can sometimes feel repetitive, boring, and physically isolating. Also somewhat difficult to ever feel like you are off the clock since you are around guests and must maintain a "guestable" appearance/behavior during meals or if you participate in the evening activities like barn dance or music night.

Thanks for taking the time to review your time here at the ranch. These reviews are really important to me/us, as a big "Why" for us is our staff. Our desire to create a healthy culture and community are certainly aspirational - we miss the mark, but these reviews represent honest feedback that shed light on where we are doing well and where we need work. I am assuming that I might be part of "Upper management", but don't want to presume - but I appreciate your kind words. In terms of our improvement, I am most concerned (and appreciative that you mention it) that you felt uncomfortable in any way as a queer person. I think your observations are right on - we do tend to attract a more conservative crowd (though there is probably more of a diversity of thought than we realize). That said, conservative or liberal, we are humans and all deserve respect, love, and genuine care. So, I am so sorry that you felt uncomfortable in any way - we will work harder at earning trust and creating a community that feels like home for everyone. Thank you for your service to the ranch. Feel free to reach out to me anytime if you want to chat more about it. Ben

Pros

VVR really cares about their staff. I made some life long friends there and have definitely experienced personal growth.

Cons

Although it is extremely beautiful and lots to do outdoors, it is a little drive to town. Good thing that Amazon/UPS ship there well.

Thanks for taking the time to review your time with us, and thanks for your service. So encouraged that you experienced the care and sense of responsibility that we feel for our staff. I'll be the first to admit we don't do it perfectly, but it sounds like you knew our intentions were always to see you grow personally and in your relationships with others. Again, thanks for the encouragement. And, the older I get, the more I LIKE being further from civilization..... and Amazon is killing my budget! :)

So happy to hear you had a great experience here at VVR, and thanks for your service. We strive to make it a great culture to work and live in, and the reality is that it is the staff who have the most impact on the atmosphere here. Our location is 30 minutes from Steamboat Springs, but probably feels like it is a lot further than that. I watched the news last night, and, frankly, I wish we were further away.... :) Seriously, thanks for taking the time to write down your thoughts. Ben
