Pros

I had the pleasure of working alongside amazing coworkers who are now close friends. I found it a unique experience working in the wand and camera position. Gain a 1-hour unpaid break. Discounts were ok, and a couple of times a year, we get a free trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Leavesden—opportunities to apply internally through the company.

Cons

It's a very busy and hectic environment. The working hours are long, ranging from 7 am to 10:30 pm. The hourly rate is below the London Living wage, with no extra pay during social hours or bank holidays, and loads of embargo periods during half-term and full-term breaks make booking holidays a nightmare. Communication between high management, store management & retail team leaves a lot to be desired. This, along with an overflow of customers due to the lack of space in the shop, to the obnoxious behaviour from certain members of staff, leads to creating a very stressful environment. Newcomers within a week or so embrace the same mindset as the veterans of the sales team. Low morale is a common trait that management tends to ignore, leading to massive turnovers from staff, particularly those with mental health issues. The relationship with National Rail (who own the station) is so fragile that any discussion regarding the building requires the presence of their legal teams, and the sense of contempt from some of their staff is palpable throughout my time there. Because of this, the shop has had problems with basic utilities like weak wifi, broken air conditioning, broken lifts, and doors. Getting hold of a staff room didn't happen until halfway through my employment, even then we had no microwave, no sink & no fridge. Problems with tills, camera equipment, and printers are also a common occurrence. Even with a cleaning team that comes in the mornings, they only tend to the floor, leaving other areas covered in dust. A few times, we've had members being hired who put in minimal effort into their work, which leads me to question the management's judgment. The reason may be that the shop is required to fill in diverse criteria.
