Pros

Rewarding work, lots of opportunities to interact with unhoused/homeless community members (if that's your passion), and you can create some strong connections with volunteers. Wasn't a terrible starter job. Had good health insurance and retirement matching.

Cons

You have to sign a contract saying you won't drink alcohol (at all, under any circumstances). This is because they have many clients struggling with addiction, but it feels very controlling for them to say what legal activities you can/can't do with personal time. Mandatory Monday morning chapels. CEO is very distant; pretends to care but is impossible to track down or get information from if you need support. He acts like taking care of the homeless makes him better than/above the city's rules and he acts like he can do whatever he wants because he's doing this "service" of keeping people off the streets. Just my opinion but it feels VERY in-genuine. He also completely iced me out and barely spoke to me after I gave my two-week notice. I also felt that he played favorites and allows these favorites much more flexibility and freedom to do whatever they want, even if they did not do their jobs. When my team tried to address these issues, nothing was done to support us. I ultimately left because I felt there was very little financial oversight and that funds weren't being spent as/where they should be. I have no direct evidence of this but just a gut feeling. I was also asked to work for a second organization in another city (on company time, being paid by WCRM), but was not compensated for this work (which was not in my contract), and later found out that other team members were being compensated for their support of this other organization. There is also little to no sustainable long-term or clinical support for clients. They have no onsite clinical social workers or mental health support and use the "Jesus will take your addiction away" method of recovery. There's no support for overnight shelter guests to find housing or work. They provide a bed and that's really all.

Pros

I cannot find any pros with this company.

Cons

They make go attend chapel. The preachers speaks a lot of non-sense and mostly about himself. He is a self-glorified preacher. In chapel they make you quote a mantra of "I am this and that and the other thing". The hours are crazy and the pay is low.
