Pros

Working around the art, interacting with visitors, great team members, decent pay

Cons

Huge crowds, poor management skills, lack of organization, snarky hr department, no active shooter protocols, long hours, little to no positive reinforcement, idiotic policies that are never written down or made clear, poor working environment, racism, sexism, classism. Ugly t-shirt uniforms. Museum follows no discernible design scheme so guests are always lost and pissed at you. Your managers are insane. No one who works in an office talks to anyone who doesn't unless it is to yell at them. Janitorial staff cleaning up during the holiday party they should have been participating in. Sexually predatory security guards that no one wants to do anything about.

Pros

- the small but mighty team is really close knit and down to earth - director/manager is great and really reasonable - really good to get an intern familiar with classical graphic design standards

Cons

- definitely no option for a full-time conversion after internship ends

Pros

The Whitney truly cares about intern professional growth, and they have many events for interns to get immersed in the museum as well as the broader space. You get to genuinely contribute and make an impact in your department.

Cons

Be prepared to be proactive and self-starting, as it is a fast-paced environment where you should be able to hit the ground running.
