Pros

Other than being on the river, none.

Cons

What was once a great company staffed by great people and supported by caring owners has been turned into an absolute nightmare. The new owner has proven himself to be volitile, angry and unhinged. His treatment of his employees is horrid and his screaming fits are of legend. He has even gone so far as to fire his entire guide training class in a fit of rage and didn't even have the descency to apologize in person when he needed them back - he sent someone else to do it in his stead! He's installed cameras in every nook of the office (as well is at the guide housing) and seems paranoid to a fault. Returning guides and staff retainment is non-existant. WA has almost no guides returning which is a good indication of how hostile the work environment is. There are plenty of wonderful companies to work for on the Arkansas - my recommendation would be to look elsewhere!

Wilderness Aware Rafting Response

This organization has undergone a leadership change. The former owner sold the business. “Seller’s remorse” may be at play. These recent reviews have a common theme of longing for the former owner, who will not be returning or be involved in the business. Our guide retention rate is over 90%. Trainees were not fired, training was suspended for a few days and upon completion of training, all trainees were hired. Security cameras were installed for the protection of our employees after a couple of instances where the staff called the police due to disruptive, drunk, and disorderly behavior by non-employees that arrived from the main highway. Both the police and our security expert’s recommendations were followed in the design of the system. We are proud of the improvements we are making to the company and the team we are building. Several former senior guides and a long-serving Operations Manager have returned to the company to assist in achieving the new direction. We are very excited about the new goals and the accomplishments of the past couple of years.
