Pros
Working for Willoway was an amazing experience! If you enjoy being outside, then I would definitely consider that to be a pro. Keep in mind though, 99% of the job is outdoors, every day, every season…so, you will be working in ALL elements. Work life balance was good, most days your work will day will conclude by 5pm. There is room for advancement with this company, as it seems that they prefer to promote from within their company. Willoway will cover the cost for your first two opportunities to take the OCNT (Ohio Certified Nursery Technician) exam, as well as the classes for it. The company as an open book policy, which I really liked. Every Friday, the entire company is included in a meeting where finances and etc are discussed. This really helped me understand where due money was coming from, where it was going, and what I had to do to help the company succeed and hit their goals. The company offers a generous and affordable insurance option, along with other valuable add ons for an exceptionally affordable price. Employees also receive PTO after their first 90 days, one week of sick/unscheduled time off, a handful of paid/observed holidays, and annual flu shots should they choose to receive one. The company also throws a yearly company picnic, various catered events, and lots of games that keep the employees engaged.
Cons
If you don’t like being outside, then you probably do not want this job. You will be outside in all elements. You’re going to get really dirty, you’re going to come across a lot of insects and spiders. Summer season can be very demanding. Days typically conclude around 5pm during the week, but be prepared to work 12 hour shifts during peak season. Spring can also be a toss up. When the pumps are turned back on, it’s not uncommon to run into issues and have to work later hours. You will not get paid time and a half for anything over 40 hours, it will be your straight hourly wage. Most of the company work force are H2A workers from Mexico, so if you do not know Spanish, you may run into a language barrier. Google translate will help you get the main points across. This might seem like a lot, but it really is not that bad.
