Pros

I've been at Wilspec longer than the average, since the average is pretty short, and in that time, I've been able to advance, travel, and grow in my knowledge of the business. Wilspec is really good for working parents too.

Cons

The owner has a pretty bad temper, and he expects you to be able to read his mind. He changes his mind without telling people, and then gets angry when you didn't do what he didn't tell you to. Sometimes they say theyre promoting someone, or giving them a new opportunity, but really they're just moving them around, even if the job isn't something they want or would be good at. The management is also sometimes really secretive, and the GM seems pretty insecure, which makes him treat the staff bad.

Pros

Wilspec is a great company for recent college grads who are looking for an opportunity to learn about the engineering or manufacturing industries. The small size allows employees a chance to be involved in different facets of business without being pidgeon-holed into a narrow, monotonous job.

Cons

Wilspec is international, and has seemingly been on the precipice of growth for years, but can't seem to get out from underneath itself to achieve this growth. The ownership team had enough foresight to create this company and fill a void in the industry at the right time, but not enough foresight to bring in outside counsel to fill the knowledge gaps whenever growth seemed to stall. There is a lot of opportunity here, but for now, it's value might be in the opportunity for employees to learn and grow before moving on.

Pros

I had the pleasure of working side by side with many qualified and devoted people who made every attempt to make improvements within their departments and in conjunction with all other departments. With open lines of communication on the floor, co-workers had the opportunity to learn more about product design, production, marketing, service and sales which was tremendously beneficial especially to new hires with no previous industry, company or product knowledge. When unscheduled time off was requested, most managers were flexible and understanding of the individual employee's situation.

Cons

Communication from Management to the floor was poor at best and most times non-existent. By failure to communicate expectations of the owner for projects, ever changing marketing strategies and procedural changes, those on the floor understandably struggled to meet and exceed those expectations due to being completely unaware. There was often turmoil within the Management team that filtered down to the floor causing even more frustration for those working diligently to maintain a productive and positive working environment. High turnover and lack of training programs were also major concerns.
