Pros
Initially, I liked that they were willing to hire me despite the fact that I had never specifically worked in grocery and they really sold me on their benefits . The " benefits " , were constantly waved around as something to look forward to eventually,.. ( and to make up for its low wage) ..
Cons
When I first started, I really felt valued and enjoyed it.. Then, the veil slowly lifted. Point system , for example. Need to go home sick? 2 pts.. Clock in a 2 minutes + past your shift, because there is a line of other people clocking in , in front of you? Too bad.. More points against you. Call in sick with a doctor note? Another point.. .. More than 9 points in a month? You're terminated. Ask for time off, 2 or 3 months in advance..? Sure.no big deal.. Then, get a thumbs up ....getting the go ahead, plan your trip, book your airfare, housesitter, babysitter, hotel.. Months in advance.. Then get told a week prior, that you are , in fact, on their schedule despite being told 2 Months ago, that you had the green light .. And if you elect to go anyway, and simply " Call in" , they " know you're not sick, because your absence will coincide with the time off you requested" .., so.. You will either have to cancel your trip or be let go for excessive absenteeism.. Or quit. You get paid under 10.00 an hour to work yourself to the bone ...add in petty nitpicking about your sleeves being 1/4 of an inch too short ..no jewelery at all, ..no nail polish, no eyelash extensions, no eyeglasses with rhinestones or adornments, ... Erratic unpredictable scheduling . Not all the employees were unpleasent, but a few cashiers and lead clerks were extremely condescending. And in my department, it seems like, if you're new, and something isn't done to " Winco standard" , you will get the finger pointed at you, regardless of who's at fault. Hypocritical behavior is rampant. People who have been there longer as well as supervisors, will tell you not to neglect x,y,z..and to please never forget to " " ... And then you show up for your shift the see that those very people dropped the ball , themselves. And now you have to pick up the slack, and deal with getting blamed for somebody else's oversight. But...if you've been there longer, everyone looks the other way... I swear. The only way that matters is Winco's way. Trained as a clerk/ cashier for 2 days ( I was switching departments after working in a different dept for a several weeks) and was looking up produce codes...and looked up avacodos under fruit. Because, it is , in fact, a fruit! But winco has it classified as a vegetable. And got scolded . They are scientists, now too,I guess. And can reclassify any food as anything they want..and in the meantime, the person training me argued with me for 5 minutes about whether or not it was fruit. !... It does not matter how educated you are, the only education that matters is Winco's mis"education" ..( In fact, the amount of grammatical and spelling errors in the industrial (training) video is laughable.) It doesn't matter how intelligent, charismatic, honest, loyal, or hard-working you are, you are just another link in their chain of disposable employees. You are part of their machine. Your ideas do not matter. I gave 110% every day that I worked there. I was never late. I was never rude, disrespectful, or unprofessional. I powered through a several week long illness, a chronic illness, injury, fatigue.and with a can do attitude and a smile every day. And yet, I left each day feeling defeated and like I was never good enough or valued. I quit, after being offered a higher paying wage for a company that treats me like human being. It's an okay place to shop. But not a good experiance, as an employee.
