Pros

- There are many locations for you to work from, and the management is flexible with mobility within departments as long as you’ve been in your position for 6 months - The marketing team is very supportive of one another - You get access to a lot of perks in terms of shopping, resort and hotel stays, and access to amenities - You are trained in many useful systems that will allow you to succeed at any resort job - The company has a lot of money, therefore a lot of the resorts are well-maintained and modern - The overtime you will accrue isn’t a big deal for management and you won’t be criticized for it. They encourage it if you can close a sale because of it

Cons

- The majority of guests will hate you immediately because timeshares have a negative reputation. Because of this you will be treated harshly but are expected to kiss their feet no matter how they treat you. Your managers will give them gifts and go out of their way to please them, even if their concern is extremely minimal or even made up - You will be working more than 40 hours per week. Your schedule depends on how late or early guests arrive/check into the resort, and depending on your workload for the day you can be doing overtime every shift - You are leading people to sales even though you are required to mislead guests by telling them there is no sales involved - The way you score guests before pitching to them and the resulting treatment of the guests based on their credit made me very uncomfortable - I was told by sales managers to lie to the guests about the nature of the tours they take - Marketing teams tend to be small and there is a lot of turnover, thus it is expected for you to be called in early or on your day off if another associate is out - The quotas are portrayed as easy to accomplish, however, the nature of this business can be exploitative and guests are aware of this by now. The quotas are very difficult to meet if you are not a sales shark to the core - You will be pressured to succeed above the expectations, but depending on your manager you can be harassed about meeting goals halfway through the quarter - You will be doing many tasks outside of marketing and you will be guilt tripped if you don’t jump at the opportunity - This job is many of the associates entire lives, and if you aren’t willing to make this a priority over everything else, it is easy feel under appreciated - The entire marketing team often feels under pressure, and my whole team wanted to quit for months. Many haven’t due to the pressure they feel from management and are afraid to leave the stable job. This affects the work environment a lot. - What you take home is extremely small compared to the hundreds of thousands of dollars you make for the company - The sales departments are not always supportive of marketing, even though they must work together to close a sale. Sales can often be negative towards marketers if they’re having a bad sales day, and expected us to do the dirty work

Pros

Coworkers were amazing, we had a lot of fun and genuinely enjoyed talking with people. It was great to help visitors have an amazing vacation in a town I love.

Cons

Marketers from larger locations would come in to help "boost" our sign-ups by encouraging we lie directly to the owner/guest. Each had their own trick and "new thing" that wasn't really new, if not completely fake. My team valued honesty, and did not want to stoop below our morals. Also, once we were all meeting goals for owner/non-owner sign ups, they bumped up the percentages needed to stay employed. Which resulted in half the team getting fired, and the other half quit since it wasn't going to be the same.
